Or if you like you can connect with me on Facebook

A Girl in the World website will be launched very soon.
I will post the link on here :-)

Writing and illustrating a children's book is quite the adventure, one that I will be repeating...because I and A Girl in the World have plans to raise awareness for Orphfund and eco friendly trade and practices, whilst sharing as much happiness, hope, joy, truth, love and creativity as possible.

Staying true to the ethical and environmental considerations is not easy when the world supports cutting corners and trees in the name of greater profit, by supporting me in this you are supporting a person who chooses not to take the easy road but instead to take the eco friendly road and promote it all the way.

It is an eye opening experience to delve into the world of fair trade and eco friendly trade and practice...my eyes are open and I hope to continue to help open the eyes and hearts and minds of the children and adults.

We have a world full of choice available to us, informed and aware choices lead to powerful choices that make a big difference, encouraging our children to make informed choices leads to empowered young people...

Thanks again, much appreciation to you all xox

A Girl in the World

A most fantastic and lovely day was had at a very green and wonderful preschool, filming our song, last Friday. A song written by the beautiful and talented Peter Morgan...

Tis so rich in meaning and loveliness it brought tears to my eyes. The children sang with the beautiful voices and we were very lucky to have a talented and fantastic filmmaker shoot the video for us. I will post the video here as soon as I have it...

In the meantime check out the gallery to see our crowd funding video, images from the book and my lovely organic ( no harmful chemicals ) coloured hair.

The kids loved it and so did all the peak hour commuters on Sydney trains.

A Girl In The World

Available for purchase here...just click the link below

A Girl In The World is a series of children's books.

Created to encourage children and adults to share thoughts and feelings, to nourish philosophical and spiritual communication and to enrich emotional connection.

Each book will be Australian made with full environmental considerations and certification, so that it may sit in the hands of children and adults not having cost the earth. Raising awareness for sustainable printing and eco friendly trade and practices will empower children and parents to be part of the solution.

We aim to raise awareness for Orphfund, a wonderful life saving and life changing organisation that champions children's wellbeing and welfare throughout the world.

A Girl in the World is raising awareness for ORPHFUND

Orphfund is a volunteer based organisation helping abandoned,

orphaned and vulnerable children around the world, regardless of race or religion.

They run grass root, self-sustaining, community projects, that provide shelter, nutrition, health care, support, education and training, ensuring all children have a happy and bright future.

Orphfund are purely volunteer based and they are proud to ensure that 100% of any donation will reach children living in poverty.

To find out more about them, the work that they do and how you can help please visit…

http://www.orphfund.org/drupal/

A girl in the world books and stories are designed to delight.

They are about creating a space where children and adults may experience heartfelt conversations and communication about thoughts and feelings.

A Girl In The World books and stories are as much about creating that time and place where thoughts and feelings can be shared as it is about the books and stories themselves. In a hurried world and busy lives, this precious time can all to often be lost to so many other responsibilities.

Providing opportunities that encourage and allow children to connect to, understand and express themselves is vital to their mental, emotional and spiritual health and growth. This helps to foster in them the understanding and importance of their place in the world and validates that their thoughts and feeling matter.

Helping build confidence and resilience in children and develop a healthy sense of themselves is of the greatest importance. It also clears a path for them to develop a strong belief in themselves and their ability to make positive choices. One of the greatest gifts we can offer our children is the knowledge that they have choices, that they can choose to respond or react.

It helps children to understand that they have the power to affect change through the choices they make and to take responsibility for creating and sharing ideas, thoughts and feelings, even if difficult and challenging, in a safe and positive manner.

The Way The Books Are Made-is as important as the WHY.

By creating children’s books that are eco friendly and sustainable with transparency and information as to the printing and production of these books it also opens up the world of possibility to explore and converse with children about the environment and our need to protect it.

Opening up those conversations with children and sharing the vast number of ways we can do that will help them feel pro-active and equip to make decisions and choices regarding the future of our.

A Girl In The World books are eco friendly and certified, printed and produced with full
environmental considerations and certification.

Story of A Girl

Story of A Girl

Story of a girl who lived in a world where all was not fair or right or just too much of the time,

but still there was laughter and still there was joy.

For along the way and in her travels she had learned quite a few valuable lessons.

One in particular being, that which brings you down cannot keep you down unless you allow it and that you cannot hold another down unless you stay down with them.

She learned most lessons the hard way and in doing so learned that pain can be a gift that allows you to see more humbly and deeply into the hearts and souls of others.

She learned that sometimes life’s most treasured gifts often come in the most unwelcome packages.

She came to understand that it is letting go that requires the greatest strength.

She came to understand that not getting what it is you think you want, can bring about a greater joy than you anticipated or dreamed.

She discovered that the happiness she sought was closer to home than she realized.

She learned that loving someone sometimes isn’t always easy but that it shouldn’t always be hard.

Sadly she learned that you can’t always be with the one you love and that you don’t always

love the one you are with.

She learned that too often it was the people who she thought were supposed to love and care about

her the most that caused the most pain.

She learned and valued that acceptance really was the answer to many problems.

Discovering it’s more important to be who you are, than to worry about what you are.

She understood that possessions ought never replace the value of people,

things are replaceable, people are not.

Although she lived in a world of extravagance, she learned that less is more.

She came to believe that happiness truely was a means of travel and not a destination.

She discovered that hope really is the jewel of life and that when everyone else has given up,

when all else fails, hope will find a way.

She saw that some people’s fears haunted them more than actual events.

She saw that many people stumbled over the truth from time to time and most picked them selves up and brushed themselves of as if nothing had happened.

She learned not to fear her darkness for she had discovered that some things only show up in the dark and that is where the light shines the brightest.

She realized people come and go but feelings do remain and that there could be great healing

on the other side of great suffering.

She learned that being alone and feeling lonely were two different things.

She discovered that there is always another way and that she would never have known the joy of finding her self if she hadn’t got lost.

She found that sometimes the answer to the problem created an even bigger problem.

She came to understand that there is great relief and freedom in forgiveness but that it is a

journey in itself to get there.

She realized that she was never able to unlove that man.

She discovered that it really is true, it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

She learned that surrender is often a sign of great strength, as is gentleness.

She came to the understanding that there was a difference between loving someone because you need them and needing someone because you love them.

She discovered it takes courage to remain true to yourself and that sometimes you have to be willing to let go of everything you think you have to hold onto yourself.

Then she lived…

Peace Exhibition in Celebration of International Peace Day September 21, 2012

I'm holding a PEACE exhibition in September in Sydney, date and location to be confirmed? But it will happen, opening night will be held on September 21 to mark International Peace Day and I will be generating some buzz around it especially as this year will mark what will hopefully be the worlds first ever global cease fire thanks to the tireless efforts of Peace One Day founder and campaigner Jeremy Gilley.

The exhibition will be a collaboration of artists and photographers and I am more than happy to count you in, if you are interested? Contact me - see my contact details on the right hand side and I will give you further details...

The theme is PEACE...How you choose to interpret that is entirely up to you.

Please feel free to pass on the exhibition and my contact details to anyone else you know that may be interested in exhibiting.

Peace Melanie

Peace One Day

Peace One Day Jeremy Gilley

We're building the biggest call for peace the world has ever seen:
Global Truce 2012 and we want you to be part of it!
Each year, 21 September marks Peace Day;
a day for wide-scale community action, and a day for UN agencies
and aid organisations to safely carry out life-saving work.

What have we done so far?

By 2007 - 100 million people have been active
on Peace Day (source UNDPI).
Peace Day 2007 - Peace One Day ambassador Jude Law and
founder Jeremy Gilley traveled to Afghanistan to spearhead
a campaign that has resulted in 4.5 million children being vaccinated
against polio in previously unreachable areas.
Peace Day 2008 - UN Department of Safety and Security recorded a
70% reduction in violent incidents in Afghanistan on Peace Day.
Peace Day 2010 - WHO/UNICEF/Afghan Ministry of Public Health
vaccinated over 50,000 children and women in
23 locations against all vaccine-preventable diseases.
They also launched a nationwide polio campaign
targeting 8 million children across Afghanistan.

And the future?

For Peace Day 2012, we're calling for a day of
ceasefire and non-violence - a Global Truce.

We want 21 September 2012 to be the largest reduction in
global violence in recorded history, both domestically and internationally.
We know that this is an ambitious aim,
but we believe that each individual has the power to make a difference
if we all come together, we can change the world, one day at a time.
Take the first step to peace

Freedom Art Exhibition Amnesty International

Time will not erase me, nor will distance, indifference and denial…take from me all things outside of me and even all the parts of me you see, but you will never claim my soul. Cover my mouth and bind my hands but you will never silence me or hold me down for I am eternally free…inside of me there is a garden you will never enter, not with your force nor your brutality, you can bury my body but you will bury never my spirit...Inside of me there is a garden and I am eternally free...Melanie Lee, Artwork for Freedom Art Exhibition, Tap Gallery Darlinghurst in support of Amnesty International.

I'm organizing an exhibition, would you like to be involved? Im seeking women who are interested in exhibiting a work related to what could possibly be a lil controversial...
The theme is VAGINA, yes I'm serious. An exhibition dedicated to the sexuality and sensuality of women.

The journey's, the myths, the controversy...what it means to be a woman and to have a vagina, the way it has shaped and hindered us and affected us and our lives...

Obviously it will be a very personal project in terms of how each woman feels and thinks about themselves and their sexuality-sensuality, what their life experiences may have been and in what way they wish to express themselves.

Whether its in the form of a painting, photography, drawing, sculpting, sewing, writing or whatever other medium they choose to exhibit, abstract or realistic...Tis open to each artists own unique interpretation.

Certainly works can be for sale or not for sale...
The exhibition will be held at the Tap Gallery for one week 12th - 18th September.
Each exhibitor will need to pay a fee to enter the exhibition $40 to cover costs associated.

The gallery will take a % of $ for any artworks sold, I am also hoping to raise awareness for and arrange a % of $ for a related cause...Yet to be decide?

At present I am organizing numbers and interest, so get back to me as soon as you can and let me know if you or anyone you know would like to be involved?
